IMDB rating: 7.70 Plot: Marshall, Texas, described by James Farmer, Jr. as “the last city to surrender after the Civil War,” is home to Wiley College, where, in 1935-36, inspired by the Harlem Renaissance and his clandestine work as a union organizer, Professor Melvin Tolson coached the debate team to a nearly-undefeated season that included the first debate between students from white and Negro colleges and ended with an invitation to face Harvard University’s national champions. The team of four, which included a female student and a very young James Farmer, is tested in a crucible heated by Jim Crow, sexism, a lynch mob, an arrest and near riot, a love affair, jealousy, and a national radio audience. |

What would this insult mean?
On this forum a guy insulted another guy who made this comeback:
"The hallmark statement of a great debater."
What did he mean by that?
He was making fun of him, saying that whatever the insult was, it was really stupid sounding/ignorant… basically, like the guy didn’t know what he was talking about
hallmark is like, the king of cliches, right? so he was being sarcastic in calling the guy’s insult the cliche of a "great debater" (but clearly the guy really isn’t a great debater, so it’s more like the cliche of an ignorant person)
example:
dude 1: i am for women’s rights!
dude 2: women are nothing but good sandwich makers and f**kers
dude 1: …the hallmark statement of a great debater….
(p.s. i am a woman, so clearly i do NOT agree with the statement of dude #2 haha)
hope i helped!
